Once upon a Beach
baby's first zine
Our writing group’s task was to take some photos from the same place, or of the same thing, and then see if we couldn't write a little somethin’ somethin’ to accompany the images.
Chiringutos were just coming up when this workshop started, and I thought “hey, it’s spring, these pop up every year like flowers.” So I popped over to Barcelona’s Nova Icaria beach (basically my front yard), pointed my iPhone and pressed the white circle. Lather, rinse, repeat every couple of days until building was up and running.
As I was putting this together, mine later than the rest of the group, because, well, that’s my superpower, I realized a certain anniversary was in a few weeks, so I wove that into my story.
It’s been five years.
Thanks to Shaun Levin and my fellow gentle writers. You all are the best.
This isn’t perfect, but it’s done. And that was the goal.

A loving tribute in both the big and the small changes. And Mother Earth doing soon heavy lifting, too. Love the zine format, as well.
